cajun 101 - learn louisiana french at home

Introduction

Unless you are one of those lucky folks who live in southwest Louisiana where you'll have access to a French Immersion school, you'll be (like me and my son) studying Cajun French at home. Also, given that we live in an area where no one speaks French, we'll be using our French primarily at home, so it makes sense to start building our French vocabulary by naming the objects that are around the house.

The heavy lifting of learning a language is vocabulary building. The more French words you know, the more you will understand French. Admittedly, grammar and idiomatic expressions are essential to fluency, but building your vocabulary is something you'll have to work on each day.

Spend at least ten minutes each day working on a new vocabulary set and another five reviewing what you did the day before. The Quizlet sets that go with each lesson in this text will introduce you to about ten new words a day. I would suggest you start each day by testing your knowledge of the previous day's vocabulary. Then proceed to the next lesson. First, familiarize yourself with the new words, then use the "Learn" feature to practice the words. When you think you've got it, do the Test.
