I have collected enough material for issue number 3 and am now in the process of putting the book together and editing it. I will probably release the issue before the end of the year.
Now Taking Submissions for The Angler issue number 3
posted Friday, July 17th, 2009 by donavan
Now that The Angler 2 is done and dusted (copies available for purchase at the Angler Press store), I've turned my attention to getting issue 3 ready for publication. That means that I'm throwing the doors open for submissions again. Submitting to The Angler is a little different now. The folks at Ecostamps.org have created an online submissions management system that I would like to try to use. The move to Ecostamps should streamline reviews and lower the probability that submissions fall through the cracks.
Check out the submissions guidelines before sending in your essays and stories. If you have something ready, you can proceed direction to the new submission page.

The Angler's Literary Fund Receives a Donation
posted Friday, December 19th, 2008 by donavan
The future is looking brighter for The Angler today -- or at least for the authors who find their work published in the mangazine's pages -- due to a generous donation of money from Angler reader and subscriber Keith Freeman.
Mr Freeman stated when presenting the donation that:
I would like you to use this seed money to help raise additional funds by challenging your readers to match my contribution. Thought it's difficult to ask for donations it's for a good cause and should be encouraged. I want the writers that contribute to The Angler paid something for their work.
I would like to thanks Mr Freeman for his generous support of The Angler and it's mission to bring the very best short fiction and commentary to its readers.

The Angler 1: "Tales of Ordinary Idleness"
posted Wednesday, August 27th, 2008 by donavan
Issue 1 of The Angler is back from the printer and I'll start putting
copies in the mail to subscribers presently. You can also purchase a perfect bound, book quality edition from our online store.
The title of this premiere issue is "Tales of Ordinary Idleness". It features an introductory essay which expains the ideas behind the magazine and where I want to take it in the next few issues. From there the essay ranges over topics such as idleness, the writing life, Eric Rohmer, information overload, Marcel Proust, time travel, Walter Benjamin, flâneurs, industrial society, the future, brewing beer, survivalism, etc. Also, there are stories by Patrick Wood, Rosanne Griffeth, Andrew Reilly, and Russell Bittner. The issue runs 52 pages.
It's not too late to subscribe. If you subscribe soon (that is before I run out of copies of issue 1), you can start your subscription with this first issue. Subscriptions are $25 for three issues (one year) or $10 for an individual issue.
